Upon its inception in 1908, UP has been designated as the national university of the country. Partly subsidized by the government, the university opens opportunities for all qualified Filipino youth to receive the exceptional standard of education offered by UP regardless of their economic standing. Scholarships funded by government agencies and private institutions, as well as a socialized tuition scheme, have been made available to financially disadvantaged students. Unfortunately, although financial assistance and subsidies have been extended, there is still a great need for monetary support and other economic resources to enable more deserving but underprivileged Filipino students to obtain a university education.
Community building is one of UPAAA's core values. This includes giving back to our Calgary community by volunteering our time, talents and treasure. Our giving back goes beyond 'doing good' and having the satisfaction of serving others. Our charitable work strengthens the UPAAA brand and visibility, helps retain and recruit more alumni as we share the same UPAAA values and promotes camaraderie and unity within the group.
