It was a beautiful Spring day at North Glenmore Park that Saturday. Despite the low number of attendees, we had fun going around the park picking up trash and afterwards, having the best merienda of safron chicken arrozcaldo, puto-cuchinta-sapin-sapin-pichi-pichi and cheese pimiento sandwiches. Some visitors in the park were appreciative of our work when they asked if we were volunteers. The never-ending kuwentuhan while eating and packing up for the day was (and will always be) a welcome entertainment. A big THANK YOU to our ever-faithful team leader Timi Regala-Meneses for organizing and catering and ensuring that we continue this event no matter what. Thanks to Maricar Dilan for doing the reservation of the picnic site and thinking of conveniences for the members who attended. Thanks to all who came and did the job to give back to our beautiful city, Calgary.
It was a beautiful day at Johnson Lake when a group of UPAAA members went for a hike and at the same time picked up trash as they traversed the trails in Banff country.
The activity master, Timi Meneses, organized and made excellent guidelines for this walk considering COVID19. The objectives were outlined:
To build camaraderie among members.
To provide opportunity for physical activity and at the same time, to enjoy the natural beauty of Alberta.
To help reduce trash left along hiking trail by doing clean up on the way back.
Safety was well thought of: In order to keep members safe during the event, the following guidelines will be imposed and strictly followed:
Hiking group will be limited to a maximum of 50 people.
All persons (including spouses, guests, kids) will register and sign a form confirming the following:
a) Have not traveled outside of Canada in the last 14 days.
b) Have not shown any known symptoms of Covid-19 such as the runny nose, fever, sore throat, and cough in the last 14 days.
c) Have not been exposed to someone with known symptoms of Covid-19 in the last 14 days.
d) Have not been asked to go on quarantine in the last 14 days.
Members of each family unit must try to maintain 2 meters (6ft) distance from members of other family units in the hiking group. It is encouraged that each family unit stays within their circle and be conscious of their distance to the other members of the group.
Face masks are required before the hike, during registration. Face masks are optional during the actual hike (while on the trail).
Snacks and drinks may be brought during the hike but sharing is not encouraged.
Here are the results!
